The biggest of those secrets is his father, Nat, played by Christopher Walken. Nat is a con artist, and after Ritchie serves time for one of his father's cons, he wants nothing more to do with Nat. But Nat wants Ritchie back in his life. Nat says he is dying of a brain tumor and proposes Ritchie take him on a road trip out west for experimental medical treatment since the tumor makes driving difficult for Nat.

Christopher Walken Almost Flawless in $5 a Day

Ritchie is not convinced Nat has a brain tumor but with little to lose, he agrees to his father's plan and soon finds himself in a pink Sweet 'n Low car heading west. It doesn't take the viewer long to learn that Nat is the ever-popular con man with a heart of gold. Although the plot is predictable, Christopher Walken does an almost flawless job of playing the charming, vulnerable, shameless, eccentric and kind-hearted con man, scheming to pay their way as they go, but wanting to be a father at the end so he can leave something to his son.

Alessandro Nivola & Sharon Stone in $5 a Day

Nivola does an admirable job as the cynical, heard-edged, and too-often disappointed son, on a journey of discovery, learning the truth about his parents and himself. Sharon Stone is...Sharon Stone, a vapid, over-sexed cougar who makes the moves on both father and son, and whose extra-marital sexual success with the impotent Nat is depicted as something worth celebrating. While she has kept herself in fabulous shape, I hope those age marks on Stone's overly-tanned face were makeup -- if not, she really needs to try Rodan + Fields skin care. Stone's appearance in the film was brief and her scenes of little importance to the story.

Mr. Collins (the late Steve Gilborn) was Kevin Arnold's stern math teacher. The character could easily have been a caricature of an authority figure. Instead, he was a man who continued with his job even when under duress and expected the best from his students. The understated episode "Goodbye" is the character's finest and may well be the series finest, as Kevin learns that expectations aren't a bad thing and that teachers are humans.

Rupert Giles and Jenny Calendar from Buffy the Vampire Slayer

The beloved series that functions just as much as a critique of high school and later collegiate culture as it does as a supernatural adventure features two teachers who literally give everything they have for their students. Anthony Stewart Head's Giles is the dream mentor: reliable, but still able to relate to his young charge. Jenny Calendar, as portrayed by Robia LaMorte, faces the consequences of trying to help the same student and her vampiric lover and pays with her life. That she was also Giles' love interest adds to the tragedy.
